Can Derma Rolling Darker Skin Cause Hyperpigmentation?

People with darker skin tones are at a higher risk of hyper-pigmentation. They may opt for derma rolling procedures, but with some caution.

Derma rolling dark skin will not necessarily increase the risk of hyperpigmentation. But, to know how all this works, you must have knowledge of the mechanism involved.

Dark Skin and Hyperpigmentation

Our natural skin tone is defined by the presence of the pigment called Melanin. But, when the skin is exposed to sun, or it gets injured; or undergoes illness and aging, it leads to the overproduction of melanin, which appears as dark spots on the skin.

Can Derma Rolling Cause Hyperpigmentation On Dark Skin?

Derma rolling has not only been used for removing dark spots and hyperpigmentation, but also for lightening skin tones.

When it is considered to be the cure of hyperpigmentation, can it also be considered as the cause?

It is not true that it aggravates the production of melanin in the skin!

So What Leads To Appearance Of Dark Spots?

What happens is that using derma rollers creates tiny holes in the skin (sort of injury) in order to stimulate the production of collagen, but this minor injury if not treated well can become the cause for skin darkening.

After derma rolling, if there is uneven healing of the skin, the places of injury will have a tendency to turn into dark spots.

How Can This Be Avoided?

Injuredskin is exposed to the risk of hyperpigmentation due to UVA UVB.

Experts say the best way to avoid uneven skin healing is to use a good SPF sunblock, immediately after rolling and every time you step out in the sun. Also, one can use healing skin serums and creams in combination to derma rolling in order to ensure even healing of the skin.
